Witchfest Midlands 2018 is a massive success

Witchfest Midlands 2018 was the first time that a Witchfest has ever been held in the Midlands, and it went amazingly well. The new venue the Rose Theatre was great, with great facilities. With two halls for talks the schedule had something for everyone. The food provided by local caterer Sue was wonderful, many commented on how good the chilli and curries were. Tea and coffee were available all day and the bar was busy from the moment it opened. The evening music was awesome with great performances from both Green Fortune and Inkubus Sukkubus.  Many stayed right to the end for the Oblivion Rock club and even went to the after party at the Vine. It was a truly great Witchfest, and stood up there with the best. Everyone enjoyed their time there and vowed to return next year.

We would like to thank Elric for an amazing Witchfest Midlands. We absolutely loved the event and cannot wait for the next one. We are so very proud of Elric and it is an honour to have him on our team!  A big thank you to everyone that supported the event, to all the volunteers, speakers and workshop leaders, traders and of course all you that attended the event.

Doreen Valiente Foundation gains charity status

In the UK it has been rare for pagan organisations to gain charitable status as in the past the process has been extremely difficult. The lastest organisation to be recognised as a charity by the charity commission is the Doreen Valiente Foundation, thoroughly deserved after the years of work it has taken to get that official status. We hope that this will be the first of many, time will tell.

Witchfest International 2019 plans are going ahead

After the financial losses of 2017, there has been some uncertainty whether there would ever be another event on that scale. The good news is that plans for Witchfest International 2019 are going ahead, and it is almost certain that the event will run in 2019. We are currently expecting to be able to make detailed announcements in August. This news will be published here in the Witchcraft Times and on the www.witchfest.net events web site.

Support your local Gathering, or consider starting one

In the age of Facebook everything seems to happen online, actual meetings are so last year, or are they? Human contact and real life meetings are important, no matter how good a web site is, it cannot substitute for the real thing. The number of CoA Gatherings (local meetings) is steadily growing and there seems to be a real need for more. If you are lucky and have a local meeting in your area already, make the effort to attend. You will enjoy the experience and help to ensure the meeting survives. If people fail to turn up for a meeting the organisers become disillusioned and close it down, so it really is “use it or lose it”.

You should remember that local pagan meetings are frequently the first port of call for people new to paganism. The impression they get at that first encounter will help decide whether they continue on the path, or not, so it is a massive responsibility to get it right. We should be welcoming more people into our community and we can only do that if there is a local meeting that people can attend.

If you are not so lucky and there are no meetings in your area, it is simple to start one yourself. All you need is just one Children of Artemis Member and you can become an official CoA gathering, if you don’t have that just yet, you can still be registered as an independent meeting, just contact at coacentral@witchcraft.org for details.
